Common name: Mandarin Duck. Scientific name: Aix galericulata. Habit: active at dawn and dusk, sociable. Mandarin ducks have an elaborate courtship display involving whistling calls, raising of crests and sail feathers, head-bobbing and display preening. Pairs live together for life. Breeding: lays 9 to 12 eggs often in a tree hole nest and incubates them for thirty days. Status: near threatened.
