Conservation of wildlife and forest. The forests of Kerala are home to the animals like the Indian bison, Nilgiri tahr, panther, tiger and elephant. Kerala is also home to the birds of various species like the ducks, jungle fowl, woodpeckers, bulbuls, orioles, mynahs, darters, parakeets, great and grey hornbill, ceylon frogmouth, cormorants, kingfishers, racket-tailed and other drongoes, etc. Over the past years the Government of Kerala had taken steps towards the conservation of wildlife and forest. The Government of Kerala banned clear felling of natural forest in 1983. With the help of various organisations, this programm has been implemented.
