Domesticated Animal Diversity. Domesticated animals are valuable assets in the rural areas of southern Kerala. In addition to cats and dogs, etc. the domesticated faunal diversity of Kerala include goats, poultry and cows. Along with nondescript type of goats, other recognised goat species in Kerala is Malabari breed, native to Malabar. The ducks from Kerala are named 'Chembali' and 'Chara'. The Vechur cattle, originating from the Vechoor village in Kottayam district, were once highly popular for their productive yield of high-fat milk and good resistance to diseases, including the mouth and foot disease.
