Elephant stables, morning view

This building has been built with the purpose to contain the elephants before ceremonies. It can keep one elephant in each stable, eleven elephants in total. The center one is to carry Raja Krishna Devaraya, and has a large parade ground area in the front. Each of these stables has a unique architectural dome atop - the center one is of Hindu architecture, six are Islamic domes and four are Jain pagodas, an illustration of the tolerance and statesmanship of the Raja. The central one was apparently destroyed when the Shahi rulers of Bijapur conquered the Vijayanagara empire, but the rest of them remain pretty well preserved. This historic site won't take more than fifteen minutes of your time.
